Welcome to the BBA

The BBA is a non-profit making organisation whose membership is made up of those people interested in taking forward the Aims of the Association which are burn prevention, and the propagation of knowledge on the best treatment and rehabilitation following a burn injury.

The Association organises educational events and an annual scientific meeting to provide a forum for both members and non-members.

A website advertising facility for meetings, courses and study days is open to members only.  Agreed allied professional organisations are also eligible to advertise on the website. 1st Gulf Burn Management Conference 2017

To be held on 22 - 23 September 2017 at the Metropolitan Hotel, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The 1st Gulf Burn Management Conference serves as a premier event on the International calendar to facilitate the development of Burn Injures, providing opportunities for physicians, nurses, healthcare executives, physiotherapists, dieticians, researchers and clinical professionals to share clinical experiences, the latest cutting-edge research results, and technological innovations for clinical management.

This event will serve as a great platform to create meaningful opportunities for continued interaction among surgeons from different parts of the world and promote productive information exchanges and stimulate interesting and pertinent discussions. The networking opportunity that this combination will provide is tremendous.

We will continue building on these important relationships and partnerships that will strengthen the vision and mission of the Gulf Burn Management Academy and its future in the region.

Lastly, we hope that all our attendees will share a memorable experience and enjoy their time in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

4th Annual Canadian Burn Symposium

To be held on Sunday 24 to Tuesday 26 September 2017 in Winnipeg. 

This is a joint collaboration between the University of Toronto Department of Surgery and The Canadian Association of Burn Nurses. 

Topics will include:-

- Burn Disaster Management
- Ethics in Burn Care
- Resuscitation and Emergency Burn Care Management (new ATLS/ABLS Guidelines)
- Burn Nursing Competencies.

Plastic Surgeons, Trauma Surgeons, Nurses, Researchers, Psychologists, Physiotherapists, Nutritionists, First Responders, Occupational Therapists and Intensivists are encouraged to attend.

The symposium is currently accepting abstracts for posters and presentations.  Details and submission instructions can be reviewed at .

British Trauma Society 2017 Annual Meeting

The 27th Annual Meeting will be held in Sheffield at the Mercure St Paul’s Hotel and Spa, starting with an Instructional Day - Medico-Legal Course and an External Fixator Course on the 7th November, followed by the Main Annual Meeting on the 8th & 9th November 2017.

With over 100 delegates and more than 50 abstracts presented, the conference brings together the knowledge and experience of surgeons, doctors, nurses, paramedics, physiotherapists, Allied Health Professionals, trainees, students and researchers to discuss central issues, current challenges and new research in the assessment and treatment of trauma cases.

BAPRAS Winter Scientific Meeting 2017

BBA Section of the Society of Academic & Research Surgery Annual Meeting 2018

To be held on Thursday 11 January 2018 at the University of Nottingham.

Abstracts can be submitted online now at date for submission is 5.00pm, 9th September 2017

All abstracts must be submitted online.  The top abstracts selected will be invited to compete for the highly prestigious Patey Prize, with the remainder of those selected invited to present as an Oral Presentation.

The study day will cover: causes and types of burns, burn size and depth assessment, emergency management of severe burns, burns first aid, burns fluid resuscitation, burns referral, minor burns assessment and management, toxic shock syndrome, non-accidental burn injuries. This course will involve a practical session to enable active learning of theory covered on the day.

BBA Education Day on Management of Chemical Injuries

20th September 2017

To be held on 20 September 2017 at 9.30 - 5.30pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, NEC, Birmingham

The British Burn Association’s (BBA) Pre-Hospital Special Interest Group would like to invite you to the BBA Education Day on Management of Chemical Injuries. The day will host topical presentations from toxicology, industrial, burns, military and pre-hospital sectors, offering multi-dimensional spectrum of current perspectives and challenges in management of chemical injuries.

The Education Day is open to any pre-hospital, emergency, military and burn care professionals, who are expected to be involved in the care of patients with chemical injuries.

BBA Psychosocial SIG:  Self Harm in Burns Study Day

20th September 2017

To be held at the University of Nottingham at 10am - 4pm on Wednesday 20 September 2017

The day will cover:

- Definition and theories of self-harm
- Burns-specific research literature
- The patient’s experience
- How to assess risk
- Surgical decision-making
- Therapeutic interventions with individuals who self-harm

The day will aim to address issues for both adults & young people and is designed for all members of the burns MDT including surgeons, AHPs and nurses, as well as the psychosocial team.  The Study Day has been awarded 4.5 CME points.

Cost (including refreshments and lunch): £50 (BBA members); £80 (non-members)
